Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad couldn’t get its offense going in the third quarter and lost to Glasgow, 42-30, in the opening round of the District 2B tournament in Poplar on Thursday, Feb. 25.

The Wolves trailed by an 18-13 half-time margin and then Glasgow struck for the first eight points of the third quarter for a 26-13 advantage.

Wolf Point’s first points of the third quarter came on two free throws by J’Elle Garfield with 13 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Five points by Abrianna Nielsen helped Glasgow increase the margin to 31-17 early in the fourth period.

A three-point play by Jaylee Azure cut the margin to 31-20. A drive by Garfield kept the Wolves close at 33-22 with 4:02 remaining.

After the Scotties tallied three straight points, Wolf Point’s Sierra Hamilton scored off a rebound and made a free throw to pull the Wolves to 36-25 with 1:58 left. The Wolves came as close as 10 points in the final minute.

Hamilton led the Wolves with nine points. Garfield finished with five points. Also scoring were Hamyanie Campbell with five, Azure with five, Hailey Nelson with three and Jodi Houg with two.

Nielsen finished with 20 points to lead the Scotties.

The Wolves ended the first quarter with a short jumper by Hamilton and a pull-up jumper by Garfield after a steal by Campbell for a 6-5 lead.

After the Scotties struck for the first six points of the second quarter, Wolf Point tied the game at 11-11 on a hoop by Hamilton and a three-pointer by Nelson. A basket by Houg produced a 13-13 deadlock, but Glasgow scored the final five points of the half.
