Lustre Drops Tourney Game To Circle


Lustre’s girls’ basketball team put together a strong comeback in the fourth quarter but had its season end at the Eastern C divisional tournament on Thursday, March 11.
Circle defeated the Lions, 41-35, in loser-out action.
Trailing 29-18 after three quarters and by a 31-18 margin early in the fourth quarter, the Lions battled back on a basket and three-point play by freshman Alexa Reddig.
After Circle’s Kaylie Haynie scored at the 5:43 mark, Lustre struck back on a drive by Grace Brown and a steal and layup by Aubri Holzrichter for a 33-27 margin.
Two free throws by Reddig pulled the Lions to 33-29 with 4:37 remaining.
The Wildcats increased their lead as six points by Brooke Bartelson led Circle to a 39-31 advantage. After Brown hit a free throw with 1:34 left, a drive by Haynie put Circle ahead 41-32 with only 1:01 remaining.
A free throw by Brown and a basket by Reddig got the Lustre as close as 41-35 in the final minute.
Reddig finished with 18 points to lead the Lions. Also scoring were Holzrichter with seven, Brown with six and senior Tiara Whitmus with six.
Whitmus led Lustre with 12 rebounds.
Top scorers for Circle were Bartelson with 16 and Alexis Moline with 11 points. A. Moline grabbed 10 rebounds.
Lustre held a 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The game was deadlocked at 18-18 at the half.
Circle outscored Lustre by an 11-0 margin in the third quarter for a 29-18 advantage. A. Moline scored seven points in the period.
