Williston Man Sentenced For Intent To Distribute
Fredrick Jamison, 33, Williston, N.D., received a suspended sentence for the offense of being in possession of dangerous drugs, meth, with the intent to distribute.
The plea agreement called for Jamison to have a deferred sentence of five years, but District Judge David Cybulski noted that Jamison wasn’t eligible for a deferred sentence because of a prior felony.
The confusion resulted in a short conference. During the meeting, it was agreed to change the sentence to a five-year suspended sentence.
Cybulski explained to Jamison the differences between a suspended and deferred sentence. A benefit of a deferred sentence is that it can be removed from a person’s record.
Jamison was also fined $1,500.
When he changed his plea to guilty at the end of January, Jamison said he was in possession of meth and had the intent to distribute in Roosevelt County on Aug. 20, 2020.
At that hearing, Jamison noted that he’s thankful to be alive and that his world got turned around. “It’s just a blessing for me to be sitting in this chair,” Jamison said.
