Red Ribbon Run Draws Participants From Area Schools

Students from Culbertson to Nashua participated in a Red Ribbon Run across the Fort Peck Reservation Oct. 30 to recognize and spread kindness as a proactive e_ort against bullying in schools. Donovan Archambault from Spotted Bull Treatment Center in Poplar organized the event. A.J. Allen with the Roosevelt County DUI Task Force and Tobacco Prevention Coalition was in attendance, o_ering some interactive activities for participants. Representatives from The Fort Peck Tribes Diabetes Program were o_ering free information/ handouts and were taking blood sugar and blood pressure tests for anyone over the age of 18. Representatives from Red Bird Women’s Center in Wolf Point had a game area set up o_ering positive a_rmations, prizes and books.

Participating schools included Brockton, Culbertson, Frazer, Nashua, Plentywood and Poplar.

Students made the run along U.S. Highway 2 with a small caravan of support vehicles to help keep the route safe and accident free. Students from the western end started o_ before the sun was up. Students from the Culbertson end of the route began around 9 a.m. In Poplar, participants from across the reservation gathered together to celebrate and bring awareness to people struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol. Students were given a short survey to fill out and in return received a ra_e ticket good for a chance to win donated prizes. Archambault explained the history of the event and a “mending the hoop” ceremony. Students from each participating school presented the hoop pieces their groups ran with and assisted in mending the hoop. Runners from Frazer were awarded the hoop in recognition for pitching in at the last minute.
