Poplar Athletes Place In Scobey Meet


Poplar’s girls and boys each enjoyed success during the Northeast Montana Invite track meet held in Wolf Point on Tuesday, April 20.
Keandra Martell, a senior, finished first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.23 seconds. She placed second in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.32 seconds. Martell added a second-place showing in the long jump with a best of 13-11. She took sixth in the discus with a mark of 79-10.
Poplar’s Jazmin Gorder cruised to a first-place showing in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:26.57. It was only the second time that the junior has run the distance race.
“It’s kind of comforting,” Gorder said of the run. “It’s not sprinting. I enjoy running.”
Poplar’s girls finished third in the 1600-meter relay in 4:59.57. The relay team consisted of Jazmyn CarryWater, Gorder, Renita Irizarry and Martell. CarryWater finished third in the 1600 with a time of 6:11.74. Irizarry took fifth in 6:30.38.
On the boys’ side, Kameron Reum finished first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.88 seconds. Jace Frederick placed second at 48.19 seconds.
Reum took second in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.64 seconds. Frederick placed fourth in the 400 at 1:03.59. Mitchell Youngman placed sixth in the 400 at 1:04.37.
Youngman earned fifth in the javelin with a best of 11706.
