Tobacco Prevention News
Each June, National Healthy Homes Month raises awareness on housing-related health hazards and the steps to take for safe, healthy homes. This year, we celebrate the local housing property managers who are providing healthy housing to Montanans with their smokefree policies.
Thanks to the property managers in Roosevelt County, residents are protected by the harmful chemicals in secondhand and thirdhand commercial tobacco smoke.
These facilities are smokefree on in an effort to reduce health risks, improve safety and prevent property damage.
And it was a good business decision for all the multi-unit housing facilities in Roosevelt County as well. Smokefree buildings are more popular with renters and less expansive to maintain. Addressing damage and contamination caused by smoking can be 2 to 7 times more in units where smoking is allowed, compared to a smokefree unit.
You can celebrate Healthy Homes Month and make your property smokefree, too! Visit tobaccofree.mt.gov for free assistance and resources. Contact A.J. Allen at 406-6536212 for more information.
