Poplar School Board Hires Three
The Poplar School District Board of Trustees held their regular meeting Monday, June 7. Kenny Shields was approved for hire as Indian Education For All coordinator. Dr. Karen Toavs was hired as the curriculum point of contact for the district. Neria C. Manero was hired to teach middle school science. She is an incoming teacher from the Philippines, according to Jestin Dupree.
Members discussed the reopening plan for the coming school year. Said Dupree, “Our plan has been on our school website since August and when we open this coming fall we will be in a scenario 4 plan. This is where we plan to fully open but this is all subject to change based on the Covid situation. The plan presented to the school board is about 15 pages and we asked for a condensed version so the community members know what will take place and what to expect.”
“We also discussed the need for the Superintendent’s office to develop good relationships with the community in order to address the needs for improvement in math, reading and science,” Dupree said. “We need our kids to be in school and in a five-day-a-week school program. Our school is doing some really good things and we would like to improve our overall schools attendance and grades.”
Two community members were present in the audience. There was no public comment was offered. The next board meeting is set for July 5.
