Fort Union Rendezvous Returns
Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site saw the return of the annual fur trade Rendezvous June 1720.
Last year’s event was held virtually.
Leif Halvorson told the Community News that attendance was below pre-pandemic figures at approximately 2,100 visitors. He said previous years have seen in excess of 3,000 visitors typically.
Halvorson said Sunday attendance and participation were steadier than previous years. He said there was also an increased number of outdoor demonstrations, including blacksmithing, black powder firearms, processing raw wool, pottery making, hunting/trapping techniques and other skills.
Halvorson said attendees provided site managers with lots of good questions and feedback, indicating a preference for more accessible demonstrations and activities.
