Commissioners Approve Siren Proposal
The Roosevelt County commissioners have approved a proposal for a siren project for four communities in the county.
The proposal was for $219,751 from Industrial Communications. The project is to fund new emergency sirens in the communities of Wolf Point, Brockton, Culbertson and Bainville.
During the business meeting on Tuesday, June 22, commissioners approved a 2.75 percent cost of living increase for employees.
They also approved an increase of $1.27 per hour for public health employees.
“We want to become more competitive on the open market,” Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said.
A cost of living increase of $2.75 was proposed for the weed and fair departments. Commissioner Gary Macdonald said he believes for those two departments, workers usually get an increase when they return from the previous year.
Oelkers said he feels the current $12.55 starting wage for weed department employees isn’t enough considering they deal with chemicals and the work involved with the positions.
The motion passed by a 2-1 margin with Macdonald voting against the motion.
Commissioners approved an agreement with 911 and the sheriff’s office union.
Commissioners approved a recommendation by Clayton Vine, Roosevelt County GIS, to remove Brockton’s emergency service numbers. Because Brockton has few emergency services, the numbers will be absorbed in Poplar’s num- bers. The change was needed because of new, enhanced 911 procedures.
The motion for the County Road 2031 slab replacement project was approved. Officials will research whether American Recovery Act funds can be used.
Wolf Point resident Bill Juve presented commissioners with a poster that covered the Bill of Rights.
Juve requested that commissioners frame the poster and put it up either in the commissioners’ office or another suitable place.
“So everyone entering will be aware of its message,” Juve said.
The commissioners thanked Juve for the presentation.
