Family and friends of Patricia Henry, who died in October last year, met at the Roosevelt County Library on Thursday, June 17, to honor her life and friendship. Friends of the Library hosted the event.

People spoke lovingly of Pat and her commitment to children and the community. She was a librarian for the school district for many years, and that enhanced her love of reading, and her encouragement of children’s reading.

She and her husband, Bill, (who died in 2014) were very instrumental in maintaining and developing the baseball fields and baseball programs for the city’s summer recreation department. Today, the baseball fields are named for them, the Bill Henry Field and the Pat Henry Field.

In Pat’s honor, the Friends of the Library purchased an overstuffed chair, with money given by her classmates, two little stuffed dogs resembling her beloved “Misty Sue,” and a cozy mystery series called Booktown Mysteries by Lorna Barrett.

To further honor his parents, the first annual Bill and Pat Henry Scholarship was presented to Jaki Harada by Jason Henry, son of Pat and Bill.

The Friends of the Library encourage anyone that loves to read to come to the library, snuggle into the new chair with one of the dogs and read a good cozy mystery.
