Bergie Changes Pleas To Guilty

Mada Lyn Bergie changed her plea for two felony charges during a hearing in district court on Wednesday, July 14.

She made guilty pleas to assault with a weapon and intimidation.

Maximum penalties for the assault charge are 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. Maximum penalties for the intimidation charge are 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Bergie admitted hitting her husband on the knee with a baseball bat on March 22. Then, in April, she threaten her husband to prevent him from calling law enforcement.

A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered by Judge David J. Cybulski.

Defense attorney Christopher White asked for Bergie to be released on her own recognizance. He noted that the plea agreement is for suspended and deferred sentences. White said that Bergie is a long-time resident of Roosevelt County and she’s not likely to flee. She will stay with her sister in Wolf Point.

Roosevelt County Attorney Frank A. Piocos opposed the request. He felt that Bergie should be held until sentencing.

Cybulski granted the request for Bergie’s release. She must stay in Wolf Point and not contact the victim.

“Don’t do anything stupid between now and then, please,” Cybulski said.
