Cross Country Enjoys Good Turnout

With one of its better turnouts in years, the Culbertson/ Bainville cross country program is shooting for a strong season.

The squad features 10 boys and six girls. “I’m very pleased with the turnout. It’s one of the biggest teams I have had in 16 years of coaching,” Coach David Solem said.

Returning athletes for the boys include Drae Nelson, Maurice Bighorn, Isaiah Bighorn and Wyatt Snyder. Back for the girls are Autumn Bergum, Kayli Olson, Sam Palmer and Megan Granbois.

“Expectations are to learn to be competitive and mentally strong,” Solem said. “We also need to rebound from a bad race to succeed in the next.”

The coach wants team members to improve on a weekly basis. “Ultimately, the team goal is to be in the top 10 at state with both the boys and girls teams,” Solem said.

Top girls’ teams in the area are expected to be Scobey, MonDak and Plentywood. Top boys’ squads include Richey/Lambert and Scobey.

Culbertson/Bainville will open their season in Wolf Point on Friday, Aug. 27.
