Train Strikes Individual Near Poplar

BNSF Railway reports that a train hit an individual in Roosevelt County on Saturday, Aug. 7.

Ben Wilemon, external corporate communications manager, said the incident happened at about 6:05 a.m. when an intermodal freight train struck a trespasser near Poplar.

“We are saddened to say that the individual was fatally injured,” Wilemon said. “The incident did not take place at a road crossing. There were no injuries to our crew.”

He said the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
