The Froid/Lake Red Hawks aim to be one of the top volleyball teams in Eastern C again this season.

The Red Hawks return five starters including senior Meg Ator, 5-10 junior Dasani Nesbit, 5-10 junior Carolyne Christoffersen, junior setter Baylee Davidson and junior Aleah Johnson.

Nesbit and Christoffersen each were second team All-Conference selections last year.

Mara Salvevold, a freshman, also gained varsity playing experience last season. Senior Kennedy Ereth provides good leadership.

“We have a lot of returning players,” Coach Kiah Smith said. “We have good experience.”

One strong point for the Red Hawks is the ability of being hard hitters.

“We lost Sydney Dethman’s height, but we are still pretty tall,” Smith said.

She said the girls have been working hard during two a day pre-season practices.

“That experience helps the attitude. Spirits are high,” Smith said. “We haven’t went too far in fundamentals. We’re taking it slow.”

Plentywood is the pre-season favorite to win the district title. Fairview is expected to also field a solid team.

“I know a lot of other teams lost good players, but there’s a lot of good coaches in this district,” Smith said.

The Red Hawks will open their season at the Culbertson Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 28. First home action is against MonDak in Medicine Lake on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
