Cowgirls Have Good Tournament Showing
The Culbertson Cowgirls advanced as far as the semi-final round at their home volleyball tournament on Saturday, Aug. 27.
During pool play, the Cowgirls split their first match against Savage. Culbertson then defeated Scobey, 15-5, 15-10. The Cowgirls tallied the last three points of the second set on a kill by Perla Burciaga, a kill by Destiny Thompson and an ace by Koree Marchwick. Culbertson then downed Lustre Christian in straight sets.
In the first round of tournament play, the Cowgirls edged Bainville by a 30-28, 23-25, 15-13 final. In the first set, the Cowgirls were behind until a kill and serve by Makena Hauge gave them a 29-28 lead. After Bainville took a 30-29 advantage, Culbertson struck for the final three points including one on a kill by Thompson.
The Cowgirls then came up short to Scobey in a threeset battle.
Hauge finished with 31 kills, eight blocks and 60 digs for the tournament. Thompson finished with 21 kills and five blocks. Marchwick had 20 assists and four aces. Kenadee Kempton added 16 assists and seven aces. Alicyn Ator had 52 digs.
The Cowgirls will host Scobey on Thursday, Sept. 2.
