The Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department, with the assistance of other area agencies, fought a 2,600 to 2,700 grass fire at Wolf Creek on Wednesday, Sept. 29. The fire has been named the Badger Hole Fire.

“It wasn’t our largest fire, but it definitely one of our most challenging,” Wolf Point fire chief Clint Bushman said. “Initially, we had the fire contained to 50 to 70 acres in some hills and thought we had a decent blaze contained. This was not the case at all. We had several trucks on scene at first, but we got easily outran by the wind-driven head. The terrain we dealt with was incredibly difficult to gain speed and size up of our attack,” The mutual aid call resulted in assistance from Culbertson, Froid, Poplar, Scobey, Glasgow and other Valley County firefighters.

“The amount of farmers and business owners and general citizens are greatly appreciated because there are so many,” Bushman said. “I continually say we are greatly appreciative for the support and will never stop saying it.”

Bushman said there weresn’t any structures damaged but some farm equipment burned. The department’s annual ball is Oct. 9.
