Senate Confirms Stone-Manning As National BLM Director

The U.S. Senate confirmed Montana’s Tracy Stone-Manning as the next director of the Bureau of Land Management on Friday, Oct. 1, after a sustained push by U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., on behalf of her nomination.

Tester spoke on the Senate floor prior to the vote and praised Stone-Manning as a tireless advocate for Montana’s outdoor spaces who will serve as a nonpartisan steward for our public lands and Montana’s $7 billion outdoor recreation economy that depends on them, and released the following statement: “Today, we are taking an important step towards protecting our public lands by putting a real public servant who will hold herself accountable to taxpayers and to our outdoor way of life at the top of the Bureau of Land Management,” Tester said. “Tracy will bring good old-fashioned Montana common sense to the Bureau, along with a steadfast dedication to managing our public lands and the thousands of good-paying jobs that depend on them. She will lead the agency with honor and with integrity and, as she has done her entire career, Tracy will bring folks together, from both sides of the aisle and all sides of issues, to get things done.”

A former senior advisor at the National Wildlife Federation based in Montana, Stone-Manning is also the former chief of staff to Gov. Steve Bullock, and previously served as a senior aide to Tester.
