Peter Dupree I’m a ….
Peter Dupree I’m a lifetime resident of Poplar, MT and known to most as Tonto. I completed an AA degree from Dawson Community College and BS degree from Eastern Montana College. I understand it takes hard work and commitment to earn degrees and certifications, but an education is invaluable. I am a founding member of the Fort Peck Community College, currently serve on the Board of Directors and will always support all educational institutions and programs that create pathways for our people to grow and develop their skills.
I have a well-rounded background of governmental policy at the tribal, state and federal levels. My years of working for the Fort Peck Tribes as a CETA/JTPA director, for the State of Montana as a Vocation Rehabilitation Counselor, and over 20 years of work for the Postal Service as the Postmaster for Brockton and Poplar provided me the experience of working with and for the public. I developed a passion for helping others and service to the community. As I was helped by many to overcome my early life’s struggles, I was motivated to give back by helping others find work, to get the certificates and training needed to successfully fulfill their job duties, and sometimes just positive feedback and encouragement.
I’m proud to also have served on the Tribal Executive Board for 3 terms and on various other Boards and Celebration Committees. My goals for the council for the upcoming term would be continued support of education, economic development, and the community improvements that benefit all. I would like to strengthen our focus on the Indian Child Welfare Act, and assist those that are already leading the way to protect our young tribal members. I remember our promised rights to our land, the intentions of the signed treaties and agreements and will work to uphold our inherent rights as they were intended. I have great respect for our Tribes’ Constitution, our long-established policies and procedures that have guided us through the last 60 years and hope to provide the needed collaboration with a unified board “to protect the sovereignty and the vested interest of our Tribes and members”, as stated in our Constitution.
Let’s move forward! Support me with your vote, and I will promote these critical areas and other concerns you may bring to me - to voice for you. It would be an honor to serve you.
