Purvis Works To Earn Honors As Culbertson Student
Culbertson High School senior Tige Purvis has achieved accomplishments in many areas during his time at the school.
His long list of activities have included band, choir, student council, Business Professionals of America, FFA, cheerleading, cross country and science Olympiad.
Purvis notes that his favorite organization is BPA. “It teaches you a lot about business and that’s what I want to go into at college,” Purvis explained.
In the linux operating systems event, he earned third place at the state level and qualified for BPA nationals as a junior. He explained the event is a computer application test.
During BPA presentations, he has been on a team that placed fourth in 2021, fifth in 2020 and fifth in 2019.
A highlight came during his sophomore year when Culbertson placed second at state in parliamentary procedures. Other members of that team included Kelsie Williams, Eli Williams, Gabe Granada, Jacob Crowder, Mariah Cathey, Ashtyn Ator and Cody Larsen.
Purvis has also enjoyed great success in FFA. At the regional level last year, Purvis earned second place in regionals for a prepared speech regarding the importance of agriculture teachers.
He says his favorite two FFA events are parliamentary procedures and agronomy.
Purvis is currently being busy as a member of the yearbook staff. “It’s going well,” Purvis said of the production.
For the rest of the school year, he’s looking forward to BPA team events, traveling to activities and “getting back to usual after COVID.”
He says his favorite class is English. “I love to write papers,” Purvis added.
After high school, he will attend Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Miss.
“My mom is from there. I loved the atmosphere there. I felt like it should be a nice fit for me,” Purvis said.
He plans to major in business management and earn a minor degree in sports medicine.
“It will be a learning experience to see a different culture,” he said.
