Cowgirls Shoot Way To 2-0 Start For Season
The Culbertson Cowgirls improved their record to 2-0 with an impressive home victory over Fairview, 59-23, on Saturday, Dec. 4.
Culbertson struck for the final eight points of the opening quarter on a 16-footer by Makena Hauge, a steal and layup by Megan Granbois and two baskets by Alicyn Ator for a 14-5 advantage.
After four straight points by Hauge opened the second quarter, Fairview’s Megan Asbeck drove in for a basket to pull the Warriors to 18-7. Culbertson’s Destiny Thompson and Hauge responded with three-pointers for a 24-7 lead.
A coast-to-coast drive by Asbeck got Fairview as close as 27-12 with 1:09 left in the half, but the Cowgirls’ Perla Burciaga then scored for a 29-12 half-time margin.
The Cowgirls opened the third quarter with six straight points on two baskets by Granbois and a pair of free throws by Autumn Bergum. Four points each by Granbois and Jazzmin Fugere increased the margin to 43-16 at the end of the third quarter.
Ahead 45-18, Culbertson accounted for the game’s next 12 points including eight by Hauge.
Hauge finished with 24 points to lead the Cowgirls. Granbois also reached double figures with 14 points.
Rounding out the scoring were Thompson with seven, Ator with six, Fugere with four, Bergum with two and Burciaga with two. Top scorers for Fairview were Brooklyn Anderson with eight and Asbeck with six.
Culbertson will host Savage on Saturday, Dec. 11.
