Cowgirls Stop Brockton For Win
The Culbertson Cowgirls looked sharp and defeated Brockton, 58-26, at home on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
Culbertson gained a quick 2-0 lead when Destiny Thompson scored off the opening tip-off. A free throw by Megan Granbois put the margin at 3-0.
After Brockton’s Hally Eder hit a pair of free throws, the Cowgirls accounted for four straight points on two free tosses by Granbois and a basket by Makena Hauge off a pass from Granbois.
Ahead by a 7-4 margin, the Cowgirls struck for seven straight points on five points by Hauge and a basket by Thompson off a steal by Granbois. After Brockton’s KayJay First That Walks connected on a three-pointer, Culbertson ended the quarter on hoops by Perla Burciaga and Jazzmin Fugere for an 18-7 advantage.
The Cowgirls then ran off the first 17 points of the second quarter on eight points by Granbois, seven points by Hauge and a basket by Thompson off an assist from Alicyn Ator for a 35-7 advantage.
Free throws by Courtney Spotted Spot pulled the Warriors to 35-9 at the half.
Culbertson accounted for the first eight points of the third quarter on four points each by Hauge and Granbois to take a 43-9 advantge.
The scoring of Burciaga and Fugere led the way to a 51-14 margin at the end of the third quarter.
Top scorers for the Cowgirls were Hauge with 20, Granbois with 15 and Thompson with 12 points. Also scoring were Burciaga with six, Fugere with four and Kenadee Kempton with a point.
Spotted Wolf and Tamryn Bauer led Brockton with nine points each.
