Area Man Dies From Explosion
An explosion at a Roosevelt County farm resulted in a death on Wednesday, Dec. 29.
Roosevelt County Sheriff/Coroner Jason Frederick reported that at about 4 p.m., dispatch received a report of a large explosion at a farm approximately five miles north of Wolf Point on Highway 250.
When emergency personnel responded, they discovered an outbuilding had been destroyed when a large amount of leaking propane ignited inside the structure.
The resulting explosion caused nearby soil to collapse and fill the interior of the building. Friends and family have identified Payden Nygaard, 34, as the victim who died as result of the explosion. He was inside the building at the time of the structure. Funeral service information can be found here.
Temperatures of approximately 25 degrees below zero slowed recovery efforts, but the victim’s body was eventually recovered by the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department and several other agencies.
