The 55th Go-Getters Annual Youth Rodeo was held at Go-Getters arena south of Wolf Point Sunday, Sept. 12. Arena director Del Hansen said the event went smoothly. “It was a really good weekend, good turnout,” said Hansen. “The best part of putting this rodeo on is watching the kids that compete ever year and get better and better.”
Native speakers, activists and performers Lovina Louie, Supaman, Sten Joddi and comedian Mylo Smith visited area schools from Culbertson to Frazer Monday, Sept. 20. Dallas Goldtooth appeared virtually. The appearances were scheduled as part of Native American Week activities. Organizer Clover Anaquod with the National Native Children’s Trauma Center set the schedule and contacted the performers, including Joddi, who had a star turn recently on the FX series Reservation Dogs.
The railroad crossing project on County Road 1013 was completed with safety arms and lights in September.
Aiden Perkins and Autumn Bergum were crowned Culbertson’s homecoming king and queen. The football team capped the week by beating Scobey on Saturday, Sept. 18.
Froid Volunteer Fire Department chief and incident commander Cam Friede reported that several fires combined Sept. 24 to keep multiple departments busy over the weekend north of Culbertson. Approximately 2,000 acres burned near Sugar Top Hill before it was extinguished Sunday. Multiple departments contributed to the effort, including Culbertson, Froid, Bainville, Medicine Lake, Fairview and Williston, N.D. Area landowners contributed with blades, tractors and water trailers. Montana Department of Natural Resources deployed resources as well.
