On some nights, everything is working. The Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team put on an offensive show against Poplar and defeated the Indians, 72-28, at home on Friday, Jan. 21.

The Wolves exploded for 23 points in the first quarter including the final 10 points of the opening period for a great start.

After a free throw by Morgen Nordwick kept Poplar close at 4-1 with 6:54 left in the quarter, Wolf Point’s Josie Kolstad accounted for the game’s next seven points.

Mattie Falls Down ended Wolf Point’s streak when she drove in for a basket to pull Poplar to 11-3 with 4:46 remaining in the period.

The Wolves responded with a short jumper and steal and drive by J’Elle Garfield. A drive by Jaylee Azure and a basket off a rebound by Kolstad put the margin at 19-3. Hoops by Kolstad and Garfield increased the gap to 23-3 to end the quarter.

Ahead by a 28-7 margin, Wolf Point ran off the next nine points on a three-pointer by Garfield, a drive by KJ St. Marks, a hoop by Katelyn MacDonald, a basket by Adeia Erickson and a coastto- coast drive by Hamyanie Campbell.

With the margin at 47-15 heading into the half’s final minute, the Wolves struck with a free throw by Erickson, a drive by Azure and a basket off a steal by Kolstad for a 52-15 advantage. Wolf Point then ran off 11 of the first 13 points of the third quarter. A three-pointer by Haidyn Raining Bird and four points by Kolstad highlighted the streak. The Wolves led 67-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Top scorers for Wolf Point were Kolstad with 23 and Garfield with 15.

Also scoring were Campbell with eight, Azure with seven, Raining Bird with six, St. Marks with six, Erickson with three, MacDonald with two and Sierra Hamilton with two.

Freshman Mattie Falls Down led the Indians with 12 points. Also scoring were Rikki Belton with four, Nordwick with three, Gracelyin Medicine Cloud with three, Jazmyn Carrywater with two, Bailey Dupree with two and Kessee Erickson with two.
