Bainville’s Boys Fight Off Cowboys


The Bainville Bulldogs exploded for 30 points in the fourth quarter to down Culbertson, 70-57, at the District 2C boys’ basketball tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
Culbertson accounted for 21 points in the second quarter to take a 29-23 half-time advantage. The Cowboys led by as many as 14 points with under four minutes to play in the first half.
Bainville closed the gap to 44-40 in the third quarter.
Jesse Strickland led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Also reaching double figures were Charles Butikofer with 15, Braeden Romo with 14 and Ayden Knudsen with 12 points including four three-pointers.
Rounding out the scoring were Samuel Butikofer with nine and Alex Strickland with one point.
C. Butikofer grabbed eight rebounds. Romo finished with six assists. Knudsen led the team with three steals.
Payton Perkins and Colin Avance led the Cowboys with 13 points each. Maurice Bighorn added 11 points and James Kirkaldie had 10 points. Also scoring were Isaiah Bighorn with eight and Bridger Salvevold with two.
Perkins finished with three assists and two steals. Avance added three assists. M. Bighorn had three steals.
Bainville was 12 for 21 from the foul stripe. The Cowboys hit just one of their 11 freethrow attempts.
