The Lustre Christian Lions dropped a hard-fought 34-33 decision against Scobey in the District 3C boys’ basketball championship game in Wolf Point Saturday, Feb. 19.

Scobey scored the final three points to win the district championship.

A basket off a rebound by Braden Ewing pulled the Lions to 23-21 at the end of the third quarter.

A drive by Kolden Hoversland tied the game at 25-25 with 6:42 remaining. After a basket by Scobey, Jasiah Hambira scored for a 27-27 deadlock with 5:39 left.

The Spartans gained a 29-27 advantage, but Lustre struck back on a 15-footer by Elihan Lenihan and a free throw by Kolden Hoversland to grab a 30-29 lead.

A free throw by Kaleb Hoversland and two free tosses by Kolden Hoversland put the Lions up 33-31 with 2:05 remaining.

Lustre’s defense kept Scobey in check until Gage Hallock hit a free throw with 23 seconds remaining.

After the Lions lost the ball on a violation, Scobey took the lead, 34-33, on a basket by Regan Machart with 3.4 seconds remaining. Lustre lost the ball out-of-bounds on its last possession.

Top scorers for Lustre were Kolden Hoversland with 12 and Lenihan with nine points. Also scoring were Ewing with four, Hambira with four and Kaleb Hoversland with three.

Machart accounted for 17 of Scobey’s points.

North Country won the girls’ title game by a 59-22 final after jumping out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter.

Top scorers for the Mavericks were Jaycee Erickson with 17, Teagan Erickson with 11 and Paige Wasson with 10 points.

The divisional tournament starts Wednesday, March 2, in Sidney.
