Culbertson Falls To MonDak In Semi-Final Game
The Culbertson Cowgirls put together nice streaks in the third and fourth quarters but lost to MonDak, 49-35, in the semi-final round of the District 2C tournament on Friday, Feb. 18.
Culbertson trailed 21-13 at the half and 27-16 in the third quarter until striking for eight of the final 10 points of the period. A three-point play by junior Alicyn Ator started the comeback After a three-pointer by Destiny Thompson, Makena Hauge hit a 14-footer to cut the margin to 29-24 at the end of the period.
A pair of free throws by Megan Granbois pulled the Cowgirls to 29-26 to open the fourth quarter.
The Thunder responded with a drive by Elizabeth Field and a three-pointer by Kiarra Brunelle to put the margin back to eight points. After Granbois scored off an assist from Hauge, Mon-Dak’s Katelyn Folvag hit a three-pointer for a 37-28 advantage.
The scoring of Granbois and Thompson helped the Cowgirls keep the margin at nine points, but Field’s freethrow shooting put the contest away down the stretch.
Granbois finished with 19 points to lead Culbertson. Thompson added 10 points. Also scoring were Hauge with five and Ator with three.
Hauge had four assists. Granbois accounted for six rebounds.
MonDak’s Field had 27 points and was 12 for 14 from the foul stripe. Emma Smart scored nine points.
Brunelle grabbed nine rebounds.
