Dodson held off Lustre Christian’s girls, 53-47, during opening round action of the District 3C basketball tournament in Wolf Point on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

The Lions trailed 37-21 after three quarters of play and 47-25 with four minutes remaining but then struck for five straight points on two baskets by Aubri Holzrichter and a free throw by Meredith Valentine.

Free throws by Holzricther and Grace Brown pulled Lustre to 51-39 with two minutes remaining. Another free toss by Holzricther and two free tosses by G. Brown cut the gap to 51-42 with 45 seconds left.

Two free throws by Hannah Brown and a three-pointer by Holzrichter pulled the Lions to as close 53-47 with 15 seconds remaining.

Top scorers for the Lions were Holzrichter with 25 and G. Brown with 17 points. Abby Oifert and H. Brown added two points each.

Leading Dodson were Ireland Kill Eagle with 19 and Melony Fox with 16 points.

The Coyotes led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter and by a 28-8 half-time margin.

Nashua fought off Lustre Christian, 39-29, during loser-action action at the District 3C girls’ basketball tournament in Wolf Point on Friday, Feb. 18.

The Porcupines took a 12-6 lead in the opening quarter. Nashua added 10 points in the second period for a 22-13 half-time advantage.

Nashua held a 31-18 advantage after three quarters of play.

Lustre’s top scorer was Aubri Holzricther with 14 points. Grace Brown finished with nine points and Jaden Gibson added two points.

Tia Dees scored 12 points for Nashua.
