Poplar’s Girls Lose Tournament Games


Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad dropped its two games at the District 2B tournament held in Glasgow.
The Poplar Indians came up short against Harlem, 62-43, in the first round of the District 2B girls’ basketball tournament in Glasgow on Thursday, Feb. 17.
Harlem gained a 15-9 advantage in the first quarter. The scoring of Taya Trottier led the Wildcats to a 10-point lead during the second period.
Baskets by Allie Azure and Morgen Nordwick helped the Indians battle back to six points, but Harlem led 33-21 at the half.
After the Wildcats moved ahead 47-29 late in the third quarter, Poplar struck back on baskets by Mattie Fallsdown and Graclyn Medicine Cloud. Harlem held a 50-33 advantage at the end of the period.
Highlights for the Indians during the fourth quarter included five points by Nordwick and a three-pointer by Kessee Erickson.
Poplar’s top scorers were Nordwick with nine and Erickson with seven points. Also scoring were Medicine Cloud with six, Jazmyn Carrywater with five, Fallsdown with four, Teagan Escarega with four, Azure with four, Emma Rae Martell with two and Bailey Dupree with two.
Trottier finished with 24 points for the Wildcats Chloe Messerly added 14 points.
The Indians were eliminated by Glasgow by a 59-16 final score on Friday, Feb. 18.
