Froid Student Finds Photography Success

Froid High School student Kaylee Olson is a person who isn’t happy just sitting around. While being quarantined during the COVID pandemic, she was getting restless. That need for an energy release turned out to be the start of her photography path.
“I got bored and got a camera,” Olson said.
Now with her Canon Rebel EOS in hand, the sophomore has been gaining quite a positive reputation for her photography skills. Her topics have included western photography, livestock and sports.
She said western photography is her favorite subject. Her photos have even been seen on covers of farm and ranch magazines.
“I can capture it really well,” she noted. “That’s kind of what I learned off of.”
Although she can be seen at practically every Froid/Lake Red Hawk athletic event, her favorite sport to shoot is football.
“I love football photos,” Olson said. “I love shooting our boys. I like shooting outside way more than in gyms.”
She is pleased that fans can enjoy her photos on either her KJ Photography Facebook page or on her website.
“I think it’s nice that families can watch the game instead of having to take photos,” Olson said.
Other topics that appeal to her include family photos, brandings and livestock shows. She hopes to try her hand on a few senior photos this summer.
After starting her website in August of 2020, she said she has received a good amount of positive “It’s mainly from the community, but it’s been from others as well,” she noted.
Her school activities include being a member of the speech and drama team.
Her career plans is to go work in the livestock industry. She might still have a camera nearby though.
“This might be a side job,” she said.
