Lady Wolves Open Tournament With Victory Over Conrad


Wolf Point’s full-court defensive pressure controlled the action as the Lady Wolves stopped Conrad, 58-42, in the first round of the Northern B divisional basketball tournament in Cut Bank on Thursday, March 3.
The Wolves never trailed in the game and took a quick 4-0 lead on a steal and drive by Josie Kolstad and two free tosses by Hamyanie Campbell.
After Conrad tied the score at 5-5, the Wolves struck back on a drive by Jaylee Azure and a three-point shot by Kolstad. Kaylandra St. Marks then fired in a three-pointer for a 13-5 advantage.
The Cowgirls cut the gap to 13-10, but Wolf Point earned six of the last eight points of the opening quarter on a pull-up jumper by Campbell, two free throws after a steal by St. Marks and two free tosses after a steal by Kolstad for a 19-12 margin.
A three-point play by Sierra Hamilton opened the second quarter on a high note for the Wolves. Three-pointers by St. Marks and Azure increased the cushion to 30-16.
Conrad, however, fought back to close the half-time margin to 32-24.
Three-pointers by J’Elle Garfield and St. Marks increased Wolf Point’s lead to 43-31 midway into the third quarter.
The Wolves struck for six of the last eight points of the quarter on three-pointers by Kolstad and St. Marks for a 49-33 lead.
The scoring of Garfield helped the Wolves gain a 56-38 advantage midway into the fourth quarter. A drive by Garfield put the score at 48-40 with 1:12 remaining.
St. Marks led the Wolves with 14 points. Garfield and Kolstad added 10 points each.
Also scoring for Wolf Point were Hamilton with eight, Azure with seven, Campbell with seven and Haidyn Raining Bird with two points.
Leading Conrad were Brae Eneboe with 15, Maggie Bender with 10 and Tala Eneboe with eight points.
