Froid/Lake Girls Knock Off Nashua
The Froid/Lake girls’ basketball squad pulled away in the second half to defeat Nashua, 56-34, at the Eastern C divisional tournament in Sidney on Friday, March 4.
The Red Hawks led by a 20-14 half-time margin and quickly increased the gap on baskets by Bailey Davidson and Carolyne Christoffersen to open the third quarter.
After Tia Dees scored for Nashua, Meg Ator fired in a 16-footer for a 26-16 advantage.
With the score at 26-18, the Red Hawks’ defense led to the next six points by Dasani Nesbit for a 32-18 margin.
The Red Hawks went on to enjoy a 35-21 lead at the end of the period.
A free throw by Mara Salvevold, four points by Nesbit and a hoop by Christoffersen increased the Red Hawks’ lead to 49-31 during the fourth quarter.
Davidson then connected from three-point range and Christoffersen added two free throws for a 54-33 margin with less than a minute to play.
Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Nesbit with 19, Davidson with 12 and Christoffersen with 11 points. Also scoring were Salvevold with five, Brooklyn Nordwick with five and Ator with four.
Nesbit finished with eight rebounds. Davidson and Nesbit each had three assists. Leaders in steals were Nesbit with five and Davidson with three.
Dees accounted for 18 of Nashua’s points.
