GNDC Offers Trainings For Businesses

The Great Northern Development Corporation is offering more educational trainings than ever before as a method to assist small businesses in the area.

“It’s a lot more than in the past,” Tori Matejovsky, executive director for GNDC, said. “We’re here for small businesses and want to support them.”

CARES Act funds is helping to pay for consultants to make some of the trainings possible. She explained topics are based on previous surveys completed by participants.

One of the new offerings is phone photography for your business on May 11. Matejovsky noted small businesses want to learn how to market their products on-line better.

The presenter is an experienced photography from Bozeman. “She’s had very expensive cameras, but your phone is pretty much all you need now,” Matejovsky said.

Quickbooks programs have been very popular in recent years. New this year are trainings regarding payroll systems and reporting through Quickbooks. The trainings are scheduled for June 7 in Glasgow, June 8 in Wolf Point and June 9 in Plentywood.

“This was something quite a few people have asked for,” Matejovsky explained.

With many small businesses hoping to improve their on-line presence, a training titled, “Need Help With Your Website?” is scheduled for July 26 in Wolf Point and July 27 in Scobey. The afternoon session of the training will include the evaluation of your website.

There has also been a lot of interest in human resources training so a program is scheduled for Oct. 4 in Glasgow.

Individuals can go to www. gndc.org and click on the small business development center portion in order to register for a training. The all-day instruction is free, but there’s a small charge for the lunch.

“We send out reminders a couple weeks prior to the trainings,” Matejovsky said.

The public is reminded that the Rise & Restore Small Business Summit will take place in Sidney on April 12. Entrepreneurs in northeastern Montana can share and learn how to tackle the many challenges facing rural small businesses. Nikki Edmundson, creator and owner of Canty Boots, will be featured as keynote speaker.

Matejovsky said it’s unusual for such a summit to take place as close as Sidney. “This is very exciting,” she said.
