Culbertson enjoys a turnout of 28 athletes out for track this season.

“It’s a good turnout, It’s about the same as last year,” Culbertson Coach Dave Solem said. “It’s a nice mix of older and younger kids.”

The roster is divided into 17 boys and 11 girls.

High jump should be a strength for the Cowgirls since Megan Granbois and Makena Hauge each qualified for state in the event last year.

“They should be two of the best along with the Plentywood girls,” Solem said.

Autumn Bergum was a state qualifier in the 100-meter dash last season. Hauge, Granbois and Bergum were all part of the 400-meter relay team that finished fifth at the divisional meet.

Kayli Olson provides solid experience in distance runs for the Cowgirls.

On the boys’ side, Kobe Nickoloff qualified for state in the long jump last year and placed sixth at the divisional meet in the javelin.

Both of the Cowboys’ relay teams advanced to state last year and should be a strong area again this season.

In weight events, Justice Bengochea in the shot put and Kyler Kempton in the discus lead the way.

Solem feels the shot put, discus and javelin should be strengths for the Cowboys.

“It’s a good bunch of kids,” Solem said of the team. “They show up to work.’ He says the top teams in the district should include Richey/Lambert’s boys, Plentywood’s boys, Plentywood’s girls and Savage’s girls.

Culbertson will open its season in Glasgow on Friday, April 1.
