The Wolf Point golf team is taking advantage of the warm spring weather by having early practices outside.

Coach Rodney Paulson is thankful for the nicer than normal weather during pre-season practices.

“I’m optimistic on the weather,” Paulson said. “It’s nice to be outside and not starting in the gym.”

Wolf Point’s golf team looks for a solid season with the return of six golfers from last year’s squad.

Back for the Wolves are Gaige Bushman, Abel Garfield, Trevin Boysun, Logan Bushman, Jesse Fettig and Callan Fox.

“The returning players should do fairly well,” Paulson said.

G. Bushman, Garfield and Boysun each came close to qualifying for the state tournament last year. Paulson noted that Fox has been playing quite a bit of golf during the off season.

The coach is pleased with the turnout of 14 golfers including one girl. Ryver Summers is the lone member of the girls’ team.

“We have a lot of young kids out,” Paulson said.

The Wolves will open their season at home on Thursday, April 21.

“It’s kind of a comfort factor being able to play on your home course,” Paulson said.

He sees Shelby, Glasgow and Malta as the top boys’ teams in the division.

“It all depends on who has the numbers coming back out,” Paulson said.

The divisional meet is scheduled for May 10 in Malta. The top 15 individuals and top four teams qualify for the state meet.

Malta’s course is fairly tough,” Paulson said.
