Library Board Meets, Strategic Plan Discussed
The Roosevelt County Library board held its regular meeting March 26, at 10 a.m. Library board chairperson Beth Hekkel was present, as was vice-chair Joyce Harvey, trustees Helen Welte and Vernie Madison. Library director Janet Livingston was also present.
The trustee position has been filled. The Roosevelt County commissioners appointed Madison recently.
The library will be getting an upgrade to their networking system. The funds to pay for this will come from the Montana State Library American Rescue Plan Act monies. There is plan to take care of all the loose wiring hanging down from the ceilings and to put a hub in the basement.
New security cameras are still on backorder, according to Livingston.
The trustees watched the video Board Meetings: Short Takes for Trustees. This was the second of a series of 10 10-minute videos sponsored by United for Libraries.
Trustees will earn a certificate that will apply to certification by the Montana State Library.
Part of the discussion in this video address the need for a strategic plan.
Livingston is doing research gathering information needed to write a three- to five-year plan. Consultation services from the State Library is available if needed.
At the main, participation in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program was reported as picking up.
A new reading challenge was created with a Monopoly game board theme.
Coming July 9, the “Lego Guy” from Colorado will be in town with a program for all ages.
An Easter egg decoration program for all ages will be held Friday, April 15.
Concerns regarding use of the panic button was discussed. Livingston handed out some articles regarding libraries (public and school) who are having issues with policies and LGBTQ books.
The Friends of the Library had a meeting March 25. Discussion concerning the Bill and Pat Henry Scholarship was shared and an update on the summer reading program was offered. This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.”
Additional Administrative Issues: The documents needed at First Community Bank of Wolf Point have all been signed. This document states who can write checks. Signatures of the chairperson and vice-chair were also needed.
The minutes from the Jan. 8 meeting were reviewed and discussed. A mistake in the minutes under New Business was pointed out. The minutes read “the second video is scheduled for the next meeting in February.” The correct month should have been March. Harvey made a motion to accept the minutes with the amendment, which passed.
The statements for January and February were perused. The large purchases for February were for lumber and other supplies for the walls in the basement and for acid-free storage boxes for the newspapers.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 28 and will be held in Poplar.
