Ice Causes Single Vehicle Rollover, Seatbelts Save Lives
A patch of ice caused a single car rollover on Red Thunder Road north of Poplar Monday, Jan. 6. The Montana Highway Patrol was called at approximately 12:30 p.m. Riley MacDonald, 18, of Poplar, was driving at the time of the incident.
According to MHP Sgt. Jeff Kent, MacDonald and a 17-year-old female passenger were traveling on bare and dry pavement when they hit a patch of ice located at a sharp corner in the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll.
Both MacDonald and her passenger were wearing seat belts and were released with no injuries.
The registered owner of the vehicle was cited for failure to provide insurance.
MHP trooper T’Elle Evans was the investigating officer. She was assisted by Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice officers, Poplar Volunteer Fire Department and EMS.
