Two Female Grapplers Gain Experience As Wolves Compete In Cut Bank
The Wolves introduced a second female wrestler to the squad and gave the team’s two girls experience at the 12th annual Battle for the Belt wrestling tournament Cut Bank Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11.
Mason Garfield, Carter Pedersen, Sofie Rasmussen and Samantha Reed represented the Wolves at the Cut Bank meet. Rasmussen, a junior, was recently added to the wrestling team.
“Samantha and Sofie both had two matches in the big varsity meet,” head coach Scott Vandall said. “They did good.”
He explained that both female wrestlers are learning and showing positives.
“Samantha (a freshman) is just needing to build some confidence and gain experience. Sofie just has 10 days of ever being on the mat. She did a great job of dealing with the nerves and confusion. They are both learning and gaining experience,” Vandall said.
“Carter went 2-2. Carter wrestled well, was right in the matches,” he said.
Vandall rested Garfield after taking a hit with a chest Friday.
“He wanted to [wrestle], but we just said, ‘no’,” Vandall said.
Rasmussen and Reed both competed in the junior varsity meet Saturday.
“Sam and Sofie again did some good things, and will be OK and get a break through moments when all falls into place,” Vandall said.
Next on the schedule is the Choteau Classic wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18.
