Culbertson Competes At Scobey Tournament


The Culbertson Cowgirls competed at the 14-team volleyball tournament held in Scobey on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The Cowgirls opened pool play by falling to a solid Circle team, 6-25, 6-18.
Culbertson bounced back with a 25-15, 22-6, victory over Nashua.
Kills by Jazzmin Fugere, Perla Burciaga and Makena Hauge led Culbertson to an 18-11 advantage in the first set. An ace by Alicyn Ator increased the gap to 19-11. Ahead by a 23-15 margin, Culbertson ended the set on two kills by Destiny Thompson.
Kills by Hauge and aces by Ator put Culbertson up 16-4 in the second set. Ahead by a 20-6 score, the Cowgirls ended the match with an ace by Fugere and a tip by Thompson.
Culbertson placed third in its pool, behind Circle and Scobey. The top teams in the other pool were Plentywood, Wolf Point, Ekalaka and Richey/Lambert.
During elimination action, the Cowgirls fell in their match against Richey/Lambert.
Circle defeated Jordan in the tournament’s championship match.
Culbertson will host Bainville for a league match on Friday, Sept. 16.
