Cowgirls Down Fusion In League Play
The Culbertson Cowgirls ended their regular season with a home victory over Richey/Lambert Fusion on Wednesday, Oct 20.
The Cowgirls posted a 2519, 25-7, 25-16, win.
Two kills and a block by Makena Hauge produced a quick 8-4 lead in the first set for Culbertson. After the Fusion cut the gap to 11-9, the Cowgirls struck with a kill by Destiny Thompson and an ace by Leandra Perkins.
An ace by Alicyn Ator and a kill by Jazzmin Fugere put the Cowgirls up 20-15, but the Fusion battled back to two points. Ahead by a 23-19 margin, the Cowgirls ended the set on a kill by Perla Burciaga and an ace by Fugere.
The net play of Burciaga and serving of Thompson put the Cowgirls ahead by a 5-0 margin in the second set. Kills by Hauge and Fugere helped Culbertson increase its advantage to 17-4.
A spike by Thompson and an ace by Perkins resulted in a 20-7 lead. With the score at 21-7, the Cowgirls accounted for the last four points on an ace by Perkins, two kills by Burciaga and a kill by Thompson.
The third set was even at 13-13 until Culbertson gained an 18-4 advantage on the net play of Burciaga and Fugere. Ator served an ace for a 21-15 lead. Hauge scored a kill and ace down the stretch for a 2516 victory.
Hauge accounted for 22 kills, three blocks, nine digs, an assist and two aces.
Burciaga finished with 10 kills, 17 digs, an ace, three assists and two blocks. Thompson scored three aces, 17 digs, nine kills and a block.
Ator had two aces, 40 assists, five digs and two kills. Fugere finished with a block, five kills, four digs, three assists and an ace. Perkins had four aces, two digs and a kill.
