Local Student Playing Role In Fort Peck Theatre Performance

Wolf Point student Anna Matejovsky is having a great initial exposure to a bigger acting stage this summer.

Matejovsky, 13, is part of a production at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre for the first time. She plays Tommy, one of the classroom kids, in the performance of Matilda.

“It seemed interesting,” she said about when she was encouraged to audition for a part. “I didn’t know if I would get cast.”

Her role includes saying a few lines and helping sing most of the performance’s songs.

Prior to the opening performance, three weeks of rehearsals took place.

She was a little nervous on opening night to perform in front of a much larger crowd that she was used to when performing in school plays.

“But the lights really block the crowd out,” Matejovsky said. “It was so much fun. After the first song, I just did what I knew I was doing.”

Her mother, Tori, has enjoyed watching the performances.

“The kids really amaze me,” Tori said. “There’s a lot of stuff for them to remember.”

Anna, who will attend seventh grade in Wolf Point this fall, says she has learned quite a bit about acting and singing through the experience. She plans to continue being active in drama events and will attend an acting camp later this summer.

She is also involved in a variety of other activities during the year including wrestling, softball, volleyball, basketball, golf and track.

Matilda runs through July 23 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m.
