Three new teachers and a new program highlights the upcoming school year for Lustre Christian School.

For the first time in many years, Lustre will offer the chance for its students to participate in speech and drama events throughout the area.

Principal Ric Cattell said during the school’s guidance counselor’s visit to a college this summer, the importance of speech was stressed.

“Communication is key along with being able to speak well,” Cattell said.

New teachers in Lustre include Kendall Ross for social studies/history and Emily Eggar for math. Eggar is a 2019 graduate of Lustre Christian High School.

Emily Delacruz taught English for the last nine weeks of last school year and returns this fall.

Lustre’s high school enrollment is anticipated to be close to 40 including students from Nigeria, South Korea, Ethiopia, Haiti and Bermuda.

“We’re down a little bit, but in the upper 30s,” Cattell said of enrollment. “I think it will be 38 by the time everybody is here and properly enrolled.”

The first day of classes is Wednesday, Aug. 23.

This is his third year serving at Lustre High School.

“We enjoy the area and the people,” Cattell said. “The kids are great.”
