Romero Charged With Possession Of Fentanyl

Darius Preston Romero has been charged with criminal possession of dangerous drugs, fentanyl.

His initial appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 13. Bond has been set at $25,000.

Maximum penalties if convicted of the charge are five years in jail, a $5,000 fine or both.

According to court documents, the Montana Highway Patrol was contacted by a tribal narcotics officer on Aug. 2, regarding a vehicle allegedly to be transporting narcotics from Pueblo, Colo., to Poplar.

The vehicle was observed to have smoke coming from its tail pipe and following too closely to the vehicle in front of it.

A traffic stop was made. Romero was the driver. There were four passengers.

It was discovered that Romero had a syringe and small pipe called a “tooter.”

After all the occupants were out of the vehicle, a K-9 search was conducted. Court records state that occupants admitted to smoking fentanyl earlier that day.

After the “tooter” was sent to the forensic science division, it was tested positive for fentanyl.
