Wolf Point Girls Drop Home Match Against Scobey Squad

 

The Wolf Point volleyball team couldn’t completely overcome a slow start and lost to Scobey in a four-set match on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The Wolves dropped the home non-conference match by a 14-25, 18-25, 25-19, 23-25, final.

Scobey on the hard hitting of 5-11 sophomore Camrie Holum jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening set, Wolf Point scored on kills by Gabrielle Fourbear and Kaleah Miller-Toves, but aces by Holem led the Spartans to a 16-4 advantage.

Wolf Point battled back to 20-12 on two kills by Sierra Hamilton along with aces by Azalei Ackerman and Kylie Rodenberg, but the Spartans posted the 25-14 win.

The Wolves trailed 13-7 early in the second set, but a block by Keeley Blount-Henderson and an ace by Rodenberg closed the gap to 13-9. The Spartans then gained a 19-13 lead.

A tip by Rodenberg and an outstanding dig by Ackerman got Wolf Point as close as 2418, but Scobey ended the second set on a tip by Emmie Fishell.

The net play of Hamilton and Joli Beston got the Wolves off to a strong start in the third set. After Scobey moved ahead, two kills by Hamilton and a serve by Rodenberg cut the gap to 10-9.

Kills by 6-0 junior Kaytie Aanstad led Scobey to a 1513 advantage, but the Wolves grabbed a 17-15 lead on a pair of kills by Hamilton and an ace by Ackerman. An ace by Fourbear put the margin at 19-15.

Ahead by a 21-19 score, the Wolves accounted for the final four points of the third set on a block by Blount-Henderson, an ace by Hamilton and a block by Miller-Toves.

In the fourth set, the Spartans jumped out to a 7-1 advantage. The Wolves battled back with the net play of Fourbear and Kashlyn Speak Thunder leading the way. The Wolves later trailed 21-13, but the Wolves fought back on a kill by Fourbear and an ace by Blount-Henderson.

After a tip by Scobey’s Chloe Handran for a point, the Wolves got back into the match on five aces by Miller-Toves. A kill by Speak Thunder gave the Wolves a 23-22 advantage.

Scobey accounted for the last three points of the match including two on kills by Mady Willis.

The Wolves travel to Poplar on Friday, Oct. 6, and to Malta on Saturday, Oct. 7, for conference matches.
