Lady Wolves Defeat Malta
Malta’s volleyball team had Wolf Point on the ropes, but the Lady Wolves responded with a tough five-set victory on the road on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Wolf Point won the conference match by a 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-14, 15-11, margin to remain undefeated in league play.
After falling behind two sets to one, the visiting Wolves jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set on the strong serving of Sierra Hamilton. A spike by Keeley Blount-Henderson put the Wolves up by an 11-5 margin.
Malta fought back to 12-8, but a pair of kills by Hamilton were good for a sixpoint lead. Four kills by Blount-Henderson produced a 23-12 advantage.
Wolf Point’s final two points of the fourth set were scored on a block by Joli Beston and an ace by Kaleah Miller-Toves.
In the fifth and deciding set, the Wolves broke from a 6-6 deadlock to grab an 11-6 lead on three kills by Hamilton. A tip by Hamilton put the score at 12-7.
After Mustang battled back to 12-11, Wolf Point scored the final three points including one on a serve by Kylie Rodenberg and another on a tip by Hamilton.
Leading Wolf Point’s attack were Hamilton with 18 kills and Blount-Henderson with 13 kills. Blount-Henderson and Kashlyn Speak Thunder each had two blocks.
Hamilton served six aces. Azalei Ackerman had 36 digs.
Rodenberg finished with 28 assists.
The Wolves will travel to Fairview on Thursday, Oct. 12, and host Harlem on Saturday, Oct. 14. The home match is Pink Night to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention.
