Red Ribbon Week Recognized By Schools
Area schools will recognize Red Ribbon Week during the week, Oct. 23-27.
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s largest and longest running drug use prevention campaign. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America.
One of the highlights in the area was the annual Red Ribbon Run, which was held on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Runners from Nashua, Frazer, Wolf Point, Poplar and Brockton took part in the event along Highway 2.
Red Ribbon Week at Wolf Point’s schools included “Don’t Get Caught Sleeping, Stand Up To Bullying,” on Monday, Oct. 23, and “Use Your Head, Put A Lid On Bullying,” on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
The theme for Wednesday, Oct. 25, is “Don’t Get Mixed Up in Drugs” and students will wear mix-andmatch clothing. Theme for Thursday, Oct. 26, is “Team Up Against Drugs” and students will wear their favorite team’s gear.
