Wolves Drop Match Against Shelby
Wolf Point came up short against Shelby in the first round of the Northern B divisional volleyball tournament held in Malta on Thursday, Nov. 2. The Wolves lost by a 20-25, 18-25, 19-25, final.
The Wolves enjoyed a strong start as a kill by Sierra Hamilton and aces by Gabrielle Fourbear put them ahead by a quick 4-0 margin.
After Shelby moved ahead 10-6, Wolf Point responded with kills by Hamilton and Kashlyn Speak Thunder. Kaleah Miller-Toves accounted for a kill to cut Shelby’s lead to 11-10.
The Coyotes earned a 2013 advantage, but Wolf Point battled back to 20-18 on a block and ace by Keeley Blount-Henderson, two kills by Hamilton and a block by Speak Thunder.
Shelby held on to win the first set by a 25-20 margin.
In the second set, the Wolves trailed 21-12 but closed the gap to six points on an ace by Hamilton and a tip by Speak Thunder.
After an ace by Kylie Rodenberg cut the gap to 23-18, Shelby scored the set’s final two points.
Two blocks by Speak Thunder helped the Wolves fight back to 18-11 in the third set. A tip by Hamilton put the score at 18-13.
Down by a 20-14 margin, the Wolves ran off five straight points including three aces by Miller-Toves for a 20-19 game.
The Coyotes then tallied the final five points of the match.
