Timber Bridges Replaced In Northeastern Montana
The Montana Department of Transportation and its partners, Sletten Construction and Morrison-Maierle, have replaced seven timber bridges in the Glasgow area during the 2023 construction season. These bridge replacements are part of a broader Timber Bridges – Glasgow Area project, which will replace up to 16 timber bridges in northeastern Montana within three years.
“Replacing Montana’s aging timber bridges is one of MDT’s top priorities,” MDT Glendive district administrator Shane Mintz said. “We are using our resources and creating programs, such as this bridge bundling program, to complete these replacements as quickly as possible.”
The timber bridges replaced include bridges on Montana Highway 248, five miles east of Richland, seven miles east of Richland, two miles west of Four Buttes, two miles west of Scobey and three miles west of Scobey; U.S. Highway 2, 14 miles northwest of Glasgow; and Montana Highway 251, 25 miles northeast of Poplar.
Using a design-build process, Morrison-Maierle is working alongside MDT and Sletten Construction on eight additional timber bridge replacement projects from design to construction-ready in time for the 2024 construction season.
