Gordon Oelkers will continue to serve as the presiding officer for the Roosevelt County Commission. This will be Oelkers’ third straight year serving in the position.

Commissioner Gary Macdonald made the motion to have Oelkers be the presiding officer. Macdonald commented that Oelkers has enough time to be presiding officer despite being recently elected as second vice president for the Montana Association of Counties.

Macdonald said to Commissioner Robert Toavs that Toavs will need to serve as presiding officer in 2025.

The motion to make Oelkers the presiding officer passed unanimously.

Macdonald is serving his final year as county commissioner. After this year, his service will be 25 and a half years. Macdonald didn’t have interest in serving as presiding officer in his final year on the commission.

Oelkers is in line to serve as MACo’s president in two years.

Current MACo officers include Fergus County Commissioner Ross Butcher as president, Liberty County Commissioner Joette Woods as first vice president and Mineral County Commissioner Roman Zylawy as immediate past president.
