Kolstad Takes Aim For Strong Senior Year

Wolf Point High School senior Jack Kolstad’s favorite activity is playing basketball, and he had his start in the sport when he was only in the first grade.

He remembers his opening action was playing on his sister Josie’s team when she was in the third grade and he was a first-grader.

“It actually went good,” Kolstad said. “I got in some minutes. I torched it up.”

With two older sisters and an older brother, Jack says his family is pretty basketball crazy. He receives plenty of advice, but he says his father, Jon, provides the best support.

“He’s always motivating me. He just stays positive,” Jack said.

The biggest basketball highlight for Jack was qualifying for the state tournament last year. He says his biggest individual accomplishment hasn’t happened yet.

He’s hopeful that the Wolves can contend for the district and divisional titles again this season.

Kolstad’s role has changed as he is now the primary ball-handler and counted on to bring the ball up the court.

“We just have to work together,” Kolstad said of the team’s road to success.

During the summer months, he enjoys playing baseball for Glasgow’s team. His best position is second base.

During the school day, his favorite classes are weight lifting, cardio and government.

In addition, he has completed the college courses of public speaking, American government and anatomy and physiology. “They were tough but fun,” Kolstad said of the classes.

Anthony Red Cloud is Kolstad’s favorite teacher.

“He always pushes us to be better,” Kolstad said.

After high school, he plans to either attend Montana State University in Bozeman or Fort Peck Community College decide what career path he wants to take.

One career thought is becoming a private pilot where he wants to fly NBA teams for their games.
